by Father Nicholas Gruner
The following article is based on the transcript of a recent talk given by Father Nicholas Gruner in preparation for the Bishops Peace Conference.
To many concerned Catholic priests and lay people gathered in Chicago from across North America, Father Gruner answered their questions and gave the outline for the only real long-term solution to the grave and pressing problems besetting the Church and the world.
Some try to tell us that we already have the period of peace attributed to Our Lady but nothing could be further from the truth. Although none of us can say we personally will be there when it's given to us, She has promised it to mankind but only when Her requests are obeyed.
This period of peace is to be understood, of course, in the context that Our Lady spoke. When She speaks of peace, She is not using the word "peace" as the world uses it. She speaks of the peace of Her Son. "I give you peace but not as the world gives it."
Of course that first peace that She gives us is spiritual or interior peace. But the fullness of peace of Christ is not only interior and spiritual but also exterior. It is not only for individuals but also for society. In other words, the peace of Christ not only benefits the individual person, but also all persons living in the community, in society. The fullness of the peace of Christ is also public, exterior and it benefits all members of each and every family, city, country and the whole world.
That as God created the individual, so God has also created society. If He had wanted, God could have made us to live as hermits, but God in fact created us to live in society, so God is the author of society as well as the author of each one of us.
God has rules and a plan for order in the world, and the contrary of that plan is satan's plan. When we talk of peace we have to understand that Our Lady speaks of peace in the sense Her Son uses it, not in the sense the world uses it.
We see the so-called fall of communism, but replaced by some other form of atheism as Pope John Paul II pointed out. In 1991, in May, when he went to Fatima, the Pope said that Marxism was in danger of being replaced by another form of atheism.
Whether they have Marxist-Leninist-Communism or socialism in Russia or whether they have liberal Western humanism, or more exactly atheistic humanism (which is certainly not human nor is it liberal) it does not ultimately matter because either way satan and his reign over society is still enthroned there.
The reign of Christ the King in society is directly opposed by those societies and institutions under the domain of satan and his followers. This is clearly shown by Father Denis Fahey in Issue No. 40 of The Fatima Crusader.
If you are deceived into thinking that what is going on in Russia (and the other parts of the Soviet Empire, the "former" U.S.S.R. and iron curtain countries) is the promised conversion of Russia, you have been duped. The enemies of Our Lady of Fatima have succeeded in deceiving you. They have been able to do this in part because you lacked a proper understanding of what the social reign of Christ the King really means.
This being deceived, and lack of understanding, is quite likely not your fault because that part of your Catholic faith which applies to the social reign of Christ the King was either never taught to you or not taught to you properly. It is an area of Catholic theology which unfortunately even many Catholic priests and professors do not know at all.
You have been deceived, not just yesterday or last year, but for most of your adult life. You have not learned the Catholic faith in the first place, at least as it applies to how God wants the world to be organized. There is a very definite plan for world peace, and it's been enunciated by the Popes for the last hundred years.
St. Thomas defines peace as the tranquility of order. St. Augustine tells us God is the author of order. So if there is going to be order, it has to be according to the plan of Christ, according to the plan of God.
And of course we're told in Sacred Scripture that all things are to be renewed in Christ. Pope Pius XI points out that Christ is the Head, and therefore that in all of society, Christ is the King.
It's not just a pious title, but in fact Jesus Christ will be recognized in the era of world peace as the King of the President of the United States. He will be recognized as the King of the Governor of every state that you belong to. He will be recognized as the King of your own congressman and senator.
That will not just be because your representative has a pious picture of Christ the King on the wall. That would be very nice, but it will be much more than that. It will mean, in fact, that the senator, the congressman, will only vote for those things that he, with an informed conscience, recognizes as being in fact the Will of God.
Similarly, the President of the United States or the Prime Minister of Canada, or the Queen of England, or whoever succeeds these people, or whatever office they take, (it's not the form of government that counts or the political party they belong to) are in fact on God's side, not just in words but in actions.
As Pope Pius XI pointed out, legislators have a solemn and positive obligation to protect the unborn. What is a positive obligation as opposed to a negative obligation? We are told not to do any evil, and we are told to do good. For the positive obligation of a legislator to be fulfilled it is not sufficient to say "I'm personally against abortion, but I don't want to impose my morality."
As a congressman, he will go to hell if he does not do his positive duty to do all he can to bring about the protection of the unborn by legislating appropriate laws and sanctions against the crime of abortion. It is a dramatic example because more than 25 million Americans have lost their lives in the last 20 years in the war on the unborn.
But it is certainly not the only example. Blasphemy would be a crime under the reign of Christ the King. It would be a crime for which someone might be put in jail. That may sound stern, it may sound unreasonable, but that is only because we have been secularized to that extent.
When we are talking about the world peace that Our Lady of Fatima promised us, we must understand it in the terms of true Christian peace - where the rule of Jesus is truly respected throughout society and the Honor due to Christ the King is given by all members of society in every walk of life.
We must empty our minds of the false ideas and so-called ideals that the secular newspapers and the secular humanists in our midst, both inside and outside the Church, have foisted upon us. We must judge things by the standards of Jesus and Mary and get rid of thoughts that are infected by secular humanism. Secularism is all around us and most of us have been touched by it at some point in our development. (Pray the Rosary daily. It is one of the best means to free ourselves of secularists' illusions). The deception of those who would tell us that we have the reign of peace promised by the Blessed Virgin, is like a blasphemy.
To attribute the rise of porn shops in Poland and more Western (not Christianity but rather Masonic) humanism, to the conquest - to the victory of the Blessed Virgin, is in fact a blasphemy.
If we've been taken in by such propaganda, we should go back to the first causes, spiritual and educational, of why we were deceived. I must confess that it was only in my second year theology that I recognized that I had been a semi-Pelagian and I suspect that some of you may still be thus infected today.
It's not a criticism but the fact is that many of us live our lives while being infected by Pelagianism. Tanquerey was a well-known theologian in the early part of this century. He wrote a book of spiritual theology, and pointed out that Pelagianism or Naturalism, as it is also called, infects most of the Catholic thinking "today" and he was writing in the 1920's! Today it is worse.
When you read the tract on Grace in the Council of Trent, you'll recognize that you can easier live without air than you can be good without grace. Any good that we do have is only because of the Grace of God and we must recognize that Phariseeism or spiritual pride is a downfall of not only the liberals, but it can be also of the conservatives or the orthodox.
We must recognize that if we have any light it's because of the Grace of God. This grace was given to us primarily and first of all without our meriting it.
St. Paul tells us, "if you have any strength or any good in you, where did you get it from but from God, and if you got it from God, why are you taking pride in it as if it came from yourself?"
And so, I may well appear and maybe I am, in fact, proud. I hope I'm not, but in any case whether I am proud or not, the point is that the message of Our Lady, the humble Virgin of Fatima, the humble Virgin of Nazareth, is a call to us to recognize the rights of God not the rights of man. Pope Leo XIII points out that we've heard enough of the rights of man, it's time to hear about the rights of God.
The rights of God are that God is sovereign and supreme. We consider that we can do what we want with the car that we own or the house we live in, if we paid for it, but when it comes to God somehow we limit His rights to what he can do with what belongs to Him. In fact our ownership of anything is only a limited ownership, but God's ownership is absolute because after all He created us out of nothing.
And so when we hear that God cannot ask for the consecration of Russia because we haven't had a vote of the Russians yet about this, it is tantamount to blasphemy to say that God does not have dominion over His own creation. Whether we accept the Will of God or not, is not going to change what God wills or what God will finally do.
It would help us a great deal if we would accept the plan of God in its entirety because once we accept it intellectually we have taken the first step. To understand by using our mind is necessary. It's not enough to finish there, but certainly we won't go anywhere unless we understand, unless we accept what God outlines, what God teaches us.
That is why the faith is necessary for salvation. The faith is not the greatest virtue but it is certainly essential without which we cannot save our souls. Without the Faith we won't have the light, and I would say further without the light of Fatima, we will not understand the times we are living in.
Unless we understand the times we're living in, as well as understand the faith, we will not be part of the solution, but perhaps part of the problem.
In 1951, Pope Pius XII said that the world is worse today - (1951) than before the flood, and that mankind should ready itself for chastisement, the likes of which it has never seen before. If he would say that of 1951, what would he say of 1992?
Abortion was not even legalized, not to say that it was never performed in the Western world, but it was certainly not legalized and certainly not institutionalized to the extent it is today.
Role Of Our Lady Not Sufficiently Understood
I would like to express something to you that I think is overlooked in traditional conservative orthodox circles of theology and in their practical application, and that is the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This is not to say that Catholics are not devoted to Our Lady, but I don't think we understand the extent that we should be devoted to the Blessed Virgin. Our Lady said at Fatima, on July 13th, "Only I can help you." For the purists who want the exact words of Our Lady, She was speaking in the third person, and She spoke about Our Lady of the Rosary, but She had not yet identified Herself as the Lady of the Rosary, and She said, "Only Our Lady of the Rosary can help you."
Some Protestants and some Catholics, and even conservative Catholics say that this somehow seems close to blasphemy, that only the Blessed Virgin can help us. What about God, they might ask.
The important thing is to realize, of course, that the only Being that is necessary absolutely is God. All the rest of us, of course, are unnecessary, that is the very nature of being a creature, absolutely speaking. God, by His Will, has decided to create mankind and the world, and God, by that same Will, has also established what is necessary for salvation and His way of bringing peace to the world.
One of these things is that He will not bring peace to the world except through the social and the public recognition, as well as the private recognition of Jesus Christ, as King of kings and Lord of lords.
But it will also entail recognizing that the Blessed Virgin Mary is also the Queen of the World, and Queen of the Church, and not just as a pious gesture, but as a Sovereign that is recognized.
What is the relationship then between the Blessed Virgin and the Pope and the Church? The Blessed Virgin is superior to the Pope, and She is superior to the Church. She is Queen and Mother, and as such She is to be honored, not just with piety but also in our deeds and actions and obedience.
It is this truth, as well as the truth that the Blessed Virgin Mary is Mediatrix of All Graces that has not been sufficiently recognized in practice. This profound lack of recognition of Our Lady's God-given place in Salvation History (and in the economy of salvation) particularly in our time, which ultimately is at the root of all the problems in the Church today. It's at the root of the abortion problem worldwide. It's at the heart of the problems of famine and war.
This lack of understanding of the dogmatic truth of Mary's unique but necessary role in salvation and in history is at the heart of all the problems in the world and in the Church today. This dogmatic truth is taught by the ordinary and universal magisterium of the Church, that the Blessed Virgin Mary is in fact the Mediatrix of All Graces.
If you studied it as much as I do you would be bound in faith to believe it under pain of being excommunicated, but not all of you have had that opportunity and therefore the obligation may not be the same for you.
The fact is, if I want to come in this room as I did, I came through the door. If I try to walk through the wall, I may be sincere, I may have good intentions and be hard working, but it would be very difficult for me to get into this room if I try to walk through the wall. And as recognizing the truth of where the door is, helps us to get to where we want to go, similarly we must recognize that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the necessary door to salvation and She must be obeyed because God wills it.
God has an absolute right. Our Lord said to Saint James and Saint John "You asked to sit at My right hand, but this is for My Father to appoint" and His Father has appointed the Blessed Virgin to sit at His right hand, in power and authority. And it is for us to recognize it.
This is not to say that most of you don't recognize this but is rather to point out that in practice we are not recognizing it sufficiently. That is why it is not just this generation but for the history of the Church, it has not been sufficiently recognized. That is how I understand the words of Our Lady at Fatima when She said "God wants to establish" meaning that up to this time it had not been established. "God wants to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart." So up to 1917 and up to 1992 the devotion to Our Lady that God wants to establish in the world has still not been established.
God has a plan, a plan of which He will not change His mind. A plan that will be realized but a plan that all of us, including myself, have not done enough to see that it is implemented. That plan is extremely simple but because it is the Will of God it is absolutely necessary. Nothing else will work.
What is that plan? That plan has been outlined to us in the prophetic message of Our Lady of Fatima.
Fatima Public Prophetic Revelation
Fatima is not a private revelation as some people would have you believe. Unfortunately, even conservative and othodox and otherwise very learned men have made this mistake of calling Fatima a private revelation. It is not a private revelation in the sense they are using the word. It is a prophetic revelation. What is the difference?
Bishop Graber of Germany has pointed out that there are three kinds of revelation that come from God. The first kind is what is contained in the Deposit of Faith and is found in either Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition. The Deposit of Faith is revealed by God and must be believed by the faithful of all generations in order to save their souls. The Deposit of Faith cannot be changed by the Apostles or their successors (or by anyone else in the Church) but only explained and passed on to the next generation whole and entire. All of what is contained in the Deposit of Faith was revealed by God by the time of the death of the last Apostle, St. John, about the year 100 A.D.
The second kind is a private revelation. If I had received a vision of Our Lady and told you that I did that would be a private revelation to me and you would not be bound to believe that I had seen this vision, even if I told you.
The third kind is called a public prophetic revelation which obliges not only the seer or the person receiving the message but also obliges the Church as well. This is found in Sacred Scripture in any number of places. Our obligation is also referred to in Sacred Scripture.
One of the best passages that I am aware of is that of Saint Paul in the 5th chapter of 1st Thessalonians, verse 22. He sums it up there in a nut shell which I think is very well for us all to remember, "do not extinguish the Holy Spirit". That is his first command.
Sister Lucy speaking about the actual despising of the Message of Fatima refers to it as a sin against the Holy Spirit. You can understand why she has been silenced for more than 32 years. That was the last time she spoke in public. She spoke too plainly.
Most people, perhaps, in the Church don't really want to hear what she has to say, but we don't hear what she has to say to our own peril. As she said "My mission in the Church is not to tell people about the material chastisements which are certain to take place if we do not amend. No, she said her mission is to tell us all that we are all in danger of going to hell if we remain obstinate in sin.
She calls not listening to the Message of Fatima a sin against the Holy Spirit. Maybe that is too broad an interpretation of her words, but you can read them in Volume 3 of FrŠre Michel's book on the Father Fuentes interview. ( See pages 504 to 508, see also Fatima Crusader issue No. 19) "Do not extinguish the Holy Spirit, do not despise prophecy". To despise prophecy is equivalent in the mind of Saint Paul to extinguishing the Holy Spirit. Now if we take the attitude with regard to Fatima that it is simply a private revelation and therefore the insinuation either explicit or implicit that you don't have to pay attention to it, you have done exactly what Saint Paul told you not to do. You have despised prophecy.
We are bound to listen to what is in the Deposit of Faith. For those who are interested in the question whether Fatima is a Deposit of Faith, I will only leave you with an intellectual question which stumped my professor cold in his tracks who was attacking me with the argument "you don't have to believe in Fatima". He said this to me when I was doing my final year in my licentiate in Sacred Theology in Rome. I said "How do you know that Our Lady of Fatima is not in Sacred Scripture? How do you know that the Woman clothed with the sun in chapter 12 of the Apocalypse is none other than the Woman clothed with the sun at Fatima as She is described by Sister Lucy as being brighter than the sun?" He of course had no answer to that, because he doesn't know.
In fact Pope Paul VI in his encyclical when he went to Fatima suggested very clearly that the Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima is none other than the Woman clothed with the sun in chapter 12 of the Apocalypse.
If that is true, then the Blessed Virgin's appearance at Fatima is of the Divine Deposit of Faith. The Pharisees and the Jews at the time of Christ refused to accept belief in Christ by claiming Abraham and the prophets for their leaders and fathers, and Our Lord said if you believed the prophets and Abraham you would recognize Me, because they talked of Me.
If we claim the Catholic Faith which means we believe everything in the Bible, and refuse to believe the Woman clothed with the sun Who was predicted in Sacred Scripture then our claiming that Catholic Faith is being hypocritical. That is too strong for most Catholics and most conservative and most orthodox theologians, nevertheless they cannot answer my question. I will leave it to you as a question. But whether it depends on it being in the Divine Deposit of Faith or simply a prophetic revelation the effect is the same in the practical order.
We must believe it and we must act on it. Saint Paul tells us "do not extinguish the Holy Spirit, do not despise prophecy, but test all things and hold fast to that which is good." What does he mean by testing? Not every spirit, he tells us, is of God and therefore not every person who claims prophetic messages is of God.
And therefore we must test. The Church has tested the Message of Fatima and found it to be good. Upon finding it to be good, our obligation is clear; hold fast to it.
The reason why I do not promote other apparitions that have not been approved by the Church is not because Our Lady could not be appearing elsewhere, She could and maybe She is. But whether She is appearing elsewhere or not they have not yet been tested and approved.
The last approved apparition that I know of was Beauraing or Banneux in the 1930's. Therefore if Our Lady is appearing elsewhere She has made it clear enough in the Message of Fatima that it would still have to lead back to the roads through Fatima. She tells us here that the road to Peace is only by listening to and obeying Her Message She gave us at Fatima.
Josyp Terelya in his book Witness tells us that Our Lady is appearing in Hrushiw. I had a Ukrainian Bishop on my TV program and I asked him about Hrushiw and certainly the Ukrainian Bishops are favorable, they have not pronounced in favor, but they are definitely favorable towards it.
In this apparition Josyp tells us that unless Russia accepts Christ the King it will be disastrous for the world. It will mean the Third World War. The reason why I mention Hrushiw, as yet not approved but favorably received is that nevertheless it does pass one litmus test I see for any apparition after Fatima in our century.
Our Lady said "I have spoken elsewhere about how Russia is to be converted", a clear reference to the conversion of Russia in the Message of Fatima. And without the message at Hrushiw one could say simply as Sister Lucy tells us, that Russia is the instrument of chastisement, the instrument of punishment chosen by Heaven to punish the whole world for its sins.
Russia: God's Instrument Of Chastisement Or Blessing!
The secular humanists think that they are in charge, that they are the masters of history. The theology of history that we find in Fatima is very illuminating and it corrects the errors of the secular humanists. It is very interesting that God has chosen Russia as an instrument of chastisement to punish not just the Russian people, but the whole world, unless we obtain the conversion of that poor nation.
That is what Sister Lucy tells us again in that famous interview with Father Fuentes, "Many times the Blessed Virgin told myself and my cousins Jacinta and Francisco that Russia is the instrument of chastisement chosen by Heaven to punish the whole world if we do not obtain the conversion of that poor nation."
Mr. Thomas Walsh was interviewing Sister Lucy in 1946, on July 15th, and asked her at what stage of the prophecies we are in today. She said, "We are in the stage of Russia spreading its errors throughout the world."
He then said, "Does this mean that Russia will enslave the whole world?" She replied, "Yes." Because he was speaking to her through an interpreter he thought that maybe she misunderstood the question so he asked the question again. And he added, "Does that include the United States of America?" and she again said, "Yes."
The Relationship Between Sister Lucy And The Pope
The only way to obtain world peace and to avoid enslavement and annihilation of nations is through the Message of Our Lady of Fatima. And more precisely, through the obedience of the Holy Father and the bishops to the command given to them through that Message.
One might then ask "Is Sister Lucy more important than the Pope? I don't remember reading it anywhere that she was defined as head of the Church." We must thank Father Joseph de St. Marie for pointing out the answer. A great theologian in the Teresianum in Rome, who died in 1985, pointed out that in the Church of the Apostles the charism of Prophecy went alongside with the charism of the Apostles.
Even though the Apostles themselves had seen Our Lord and had been commissioned directly by Him, nevertheless, in some things they were directed by Prophets living at the time, and that is why you will find in Ephesians, Chapter 2, Verse 20, that Saint Paul tells us the Church is founded upon the foundation of the Apostles and the Prophets.
Now we all know from our Dogmatic Theology that the Church is founded upon the hierarchy of the Apostles and their successors and the successors of St. Peter, the Pope. But I don't remember learning very much in my earlier education the fact that the Church is founded also upon the foundation of the Prophets. It is the Prophets of the New Testament that St. Paul is speaking about. In fact the commission of St. Paul as an Apostle in a certain sense was done through the prophetic charismata, that is, the prophetic gift.
Several Catholics were praying together and among them was Paul, or Saul as he was known, and Barnabus. And as they were praying, one of the Prophets spoke and said "In the name of the Holy Spirit, I want Saul and Barnabus set aside for My service". And so they prayed and fasted, and then they "consecrated" or in other words "set aside" Paul and Barnabus for the service of God. And it was only thus that Paul was consecrated a bishop. It was through the prophetic charism of the early Prophets in the Catholic Church, working alongside with the Apostles, whereby St. Paul received his commission as a bishop.
And as St. Paul points out in Sacred Scripture, of all the Apostles he is not worthy to be called an Apostle because he persecuted the Church. Of all of them he had produced more good for the Church than all the others combined as far as the success of his missionary endeavors.
So the role of the Prophet in the Catholic Church goes back to the days of the Apostles and it continues to our time. St. Thomas Aquinas, in his Summa Theologica (II-II q. 186) tells us that God raises up Prophets for every generation, not to give a new doctrine but to remind the Faithful what they must do to save their souls.
God, despite what some people think, is not constrained to speak to us only through what He has said in Sacred Scripture or what has only been passed on to us in Sacred Tradition as it was deposited 2,000 years ago. He is able also, and it is part of Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, to communicate with us through the Prophets who are approved of.
What then is the relationship between the Prophet and the Apostle? It is the role of the Prophet to speak in God's name. It is the role of the Apostle to test and to see that the Prophet indeed comes from God.
So it is that the Church has the obligation to examine the Prophetic message of Fatima. And on finding it to be good, it has the obligation to obey. Not as obeying the Prophet but as obeying God Who has spoken through the Prophet.
The Prophetic Message Of Fatima Demands Obedience
That is why the Message of Fatima is not just a pious option any more than devotion to Our Lady is just a pious option. Without it we will not achieve peace in the world, or peace in the Church. We will not achieve the limited goal we have set for ourselves of achieving liturgical peace in our communities and our country as God intended, unless we enter into the plans of God for achieving it.
"Only I can help you," the Blessed Virgin tells us. This does not mean that we should not work, that we should not talk, should not undertake apostolates and endeavors in order to achieve our limited legitimate goals. But it does mean that if we want to achieve our end that we should alsod o it within the context and the outline of the plan that God has given us.
"Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the Lord guard the city, in vain does the guard keep vigil." And so it is that God will not build a house, God will not guard a city, unless we ask Him in the way He asks us to do it.
That is why, when in 1935-1936 Sister Lucy asked Our Lord after six years of attempting to get the Holy Father to pay attention to the Message, she was wondering why Our Lord insisted on the Consecration of Russia. "Isn't there another way Lord?" She didn't say it exactly this way but shedid ask why He insisted on the Consecration of Russia in order to bring peace to the world.
Our Lord did not tell her "You misunderstood My daughter," He rather confirmed her understanding and said, "Because I want My whole Church to recognize that consecration as a triumph of the Immaculate Heart, thereby later on, placing devotion to My Mother's Immaculate Heart beside devotion to My Sacred Heart."
In Order To Save Souls
It goes back to what Our Lady said in 1917. "God wants to establish in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart." And the context of that remark is the vision of hell.
You may not know that the word Fatima is the name of the daughter of Mohammed, but the meaning of the word is "to be delivered from hell," saved from hellfire. The very beginning of the secret of Fatima is in fact the vision of hell. After this terrifying vision Lucy tells us that she and her two cousins would have died of fright had not Our Lady been standing there with them as they watched.
Had not Our Lady promised to take them to Heaven they would have died of fright. After this vision, the children looked up to Her and She said, "You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. It is in order to save them that God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart." And so God's primary purpose, of course, is the glory of God.
The first purpose after that is the salvation of souls. In order to achieve His purpose of saving souls, He wants to establish new world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. And how is God going to establish this devotion? By the Consecration of Russia.
I would like to point out that the moment of history we are in right now is something like the moment that Moses and the people of God in the Old Testament found themselves in on the banks of the Red Sea. Moses told that particular people of God (and we are the successors) that there would come a Prophet, and if they did not accept that Prophet then they would be cut off from the people of God.
So those people who call themselves Jews are not Jews in the scriptural sense. They have been cut off from the people of God because they rejected the cross of Jesus Christ. They rejected the Prophet Jesus and therefore are cut off from the people of God. And we are the spiritual Semites, the inheritors of the promise to Abraham as Pope Pius XI pointed out.
The analogy is perfectly applicable. The Catholic Church, the Catholic Faithful are standing at the banks of the Red Sea. They are totally surrounded and they are without a weapon. And our enemies have their swords drawn and are prepared for the kill if we will not convert to the "new world order" and to the godless one world religion. That is literally true.
I have been reading about KGB agents and so forth pointing out that when they take over, they intend to wipe out anyone over 30 because they can't be easily brainwashed into the new ways of thinking.
So, we are standing on the bank of the Red Sea, we are totally surrounded and we have nowhere to go. God also led His people to the Red Sea, you might remember, and they were put in that crisis as we are put in this crisis by our own sins.
God delivered the people, but remember it was through one man. It was through recognizing God's sovereign authority over them. We recognize God commanded that Moses and only Moses was to extend his arm over the sea with his rod and that God would deliver them by this simple act of obedience.
The delivery of God's people with one single piece of wood in Moses' hand held over the sea was hardly enough to stop people with swords and chariots and horses, and bows and arrows. Similarly the 20,000 nuclear warheads aimed at this country (8 to 1) is certainly a lot more than America has facing the other way.
The one simple act of obedience of the leader of the people of God, the Holy Father the Pope, is disproportionate in human terms compared to everything that is against us. Yet it is by that one act of obedience that the People of God of the New Testament in the 1990's will be delivered and there will be no other way. Because God wants to establish in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart and this is the way He is going to do it. It will happen in no other way.
We can accept that willingly and work for it or we can reject it or think it is unimportant and pay with our blood, our liberty, our freedom and may well pay with our souls.
"Do not extinguish the Holy Spirit, do not despise prophecy but test all things and hold fast to that which is good". (1 Thes. 5:19-22) The prophetic message of Fatima is from God, God expects it to be obeyed. It will be obeyed.
We are promised in the end the Holy Father (we are not told which one, but we are told the Holy Father) will do it. "In the end" She says, and it is interesting to note that Our Lady when speaking doesn't use many words, but She does add three words, "in the end", obviously indicating that it was not going to come about right away.
"In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph." Then She goes on to describe how this will be achieved and what's included in this Triumph.
"In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me." That is Her first triumph. Her first triumph is over the heart of the Holy Father. She did not say in the end the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me and My Immaculate Heart will triumph. She said, "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me."
So the triumph includes the Holy Father's obedience. "In the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me, Russia will be converted and a period of peace will be given to mankind".
There are three triumphs here. The first one is over the heart of the Church, over the Pope and for that matter, over each one of us. I contend that the Church including myself first of all, has still not done enough to understand or work to bring about the triumph of Our Lady as is indicated by the Will of God in the prophetic message of Fatima.
Sister Lucy, speaking again in that famous interview of Father Fuentes, said the Blessed Virgin Mary is sad. You have seen pictures as I have and some of you might have even seen statues of Our Lady crying. Sister Lucy said in 1957, "Our Lady is sad because neither the good nor the evil pay any attention to Her message."
The evil go on their way not seeing the calamities falling upon them but Our Lady even included the good as not giving any attention to Her message. That is why we have lost ground in our time. Our Lord talks about the men who had 10 talents, 5 talents and 1 talent. The man with the one talent buried it in the ground and when he gave it back to his master, he was told to give it to the man who had 10. But they protested, "Lord, he already has 10 talents and the other man has none." But Jesus explained, the man who has talents and doesn't invest them will have them taken away from him.
Our Lady speaks in the Third Secret of a spiritual chastisement. We have had taken away from us what we thought was ours and we didn't invest. We didn't obey. We didn't do our part sufficiently to establish devotion in the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In the 1950's the Catholic Church was experiencing tremendous growth and vigor. Today in many parts of the world we are in retreat and as Cardinal Ratzinger points out the faith is in crisis around the world.
It is time that we enroll under the banner of the Immaculate Heart whether with others or by ourselves. But we must do what we can, at least if nothing else by our prayers, and certainly not without our prayers as Our Lord Himself said, "Pray, pray a great deal for the Holy Father. He will do it, but it will be late."
Father Trinchard in his book The Awesome Fatima Consecrations points out the words of Our Lord at Rianjo to Sister Lucy, "Make it known to My Ministers, given that they follow the example of the King of France in delaying the execution of My command; like him, they will follow him into misfortune. They will repent of it and they will do it, but it will be late".
The King of France had his head chopped off in 1793 because he did not obey the command of the Sacred Heart to consecrate France to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. For that act of disobedience to a prophetic message, the King had his head chopped off. It is no light penalty for disobeying the command of God given through a prophetic message.
Remember that Saint Margaret Mary was not yet canonized when that King had his head chopped off for disobeying the message given to him through Saint Margaret Mary. And Saint Margaret Mary never had a public miracle of the sun backing up her claim of a prophetic message given to the King. Like the King of France, they will follow him into misfortune. "Make it known to My Ministers."
By whom does He expect to make it known? Is He asking one little nun alone to make it known to His Ministers? We can do our part by making it known to our bishops. They too, may well have their heads chopped off literally or worse for refusing to obey the command for them to join the Holy Father to Consecrate Russia.
The Holy Father knows that he has not done it in his heart of hearts, although I have tape recordings of him making ambiguous statements in the contrary sense. But when he speaks plainly it is obvious he knows that he has not done it, and he is waiting for his Bishops to join him. In my view he does not need to do that because Our Lady Herself tells us in God's name that the Holy Father must give the command.
He has not been asked to determine whether they will obey, he is asked to give the command and to obey himself. I would like to point out that we do have a stake in this, we are part of the People of God as the Vatican Council calls us.
The fact is that just as the word People of God' was used in scriptures, it can be applied and is applicable in its proper sense to the Catholic Church. We are standing on the banks of the Red Sea. We are surrounded. We are without weapons and we have only one hope, the obedience of the Holy Father to the command given at Fatima.
There will not be any change in that, and therefore we have only one real option, and that is to do our part to bring about the obedience of the Church to do this act of Consecration. I have not spoken about the Five First Saturdays, but certainly in our spiritual life that is a very powerful means. It is through enough of us living the Five First Saturdays that will bring about the grace for the Pope to do the Consecration. Please do your part. I urge you and ask you to do all you can to bring about the obedience of the Church to obey Her full Fatima Message and for the successors of the Apostles to carry out their solemn duty to Consecrate Russia as the Queen of Heaven has commanded.
